When You Need an Installation — Not a Replacement
Installation and replacement sound similar, but they describe different projects.
A new build or addition. Adding square footage — a new bathroom, an in-law suite above a Del Ray garage, a finished basement in the West End — means planning a water heater setup from scratch: equipment, placement, and all new connections.
A relocation. Sometimes the current spot is the problem: a unit boxed into an inaccessible corner of an Old Town rowhouse or located far from where hot water is used. Moving it is an installation project, because every connection — water, fuel or power, venting, drainage — has to be re-planned for the new spot.
A system change. Changing fuel type, switching tank for tankless, or adding a second unit for growing demand all count as new installations — with different equipment, utility, and placement needs than a straight swap.
A renovation. Remodels often move kitchens and bathrooms, forcing a rethink of where hot water comes from. Planning the heater with the renovation avoids expensive rework.
